MEMBER KNOWLEDGE

Know the system you own

A member should be able to understand how the union works, where to go with a problem, who can decide and what rights exist along the way.

STEWARD CAPACITY

Learn before the crisis

Stewards and elected Local officers should not have to discover their responsibilities after a serious problem lands in front of them.

Practical training must be part of the structure, not an occasional extra.

Rules can be precise without being written to exclude ordinary readers.

Plain language reduces dependence on gatekeepers and lets more members question, participate and act.

ACCESS

Information should not need permission

Rules, guides, decisions and educational materials should be searchable and available directly to members.

Knowledge should not depend on knowing whom to ask.
